Hieizan Railway (Sakamoto Cable)

Stretching 2,025 meters, the Hieizan Railway (Sakamoto Cable) is Japan’s longest cable car line, and connects Cable Sakamoto Station in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture to Cable Enryakuji Station. Opened in 1927, this historic line takes approximately 11 minutes to reach the Enryakuji Temple area atop the mountain. The station building is a designated National Registered Tangible Cultural Property, and passengers can enjoy spectacular views of Lake Biwa from the train windows.
